Although it is surprising that VCJ (Vernon Courtlandt Johnson) did not receive any mention in Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, it is because the film was about the Brigade, not the company behind it, and the amazing team of professionals that supported their efforts. If anyone else deserves credit for the wide success the Bones Brigade products enjoyed, it is VCJ, whose insanely creative and iconic graphics created symbols that the Brigade’s fans could rally around and colors they could fly as banners of individuality and ‘flies in the ointment’ of 80’s society.

Court’s graphics have now become part of the fabric of our society, and are widely known all around the world. Each one probably has the ‘brand recognition’ of a Fortune 500 company, but none of the negative connotations. They are associated with individuality, creativity, and the tribal brotherhood of skaters.

The six graphics VCJ created for Tony, Tommy, Mike, Lance, Rodney and CAB are still popular and in demand three decades after their introduction. This poster reproduces the graphics just as Court drew them, in black and white, with controlled line width to facilitate silkscreen reproduction. Court has agreed to sign the first 500 of the VCJ Poster Limited Edition posters, which will create a very unique and special signed limited print run for those lucky and quick enough to grab one.
